Children

In this day and age of video games and child obesity it is more important than ever to learn about outdoor fitness for children. It’s a sad reality that most children today don’t spend enough time outside or enough time moving and being active. This is why more and more children are suffering from obesity than ever before along with anxiety and depression.
Outdoor fitness for children is crucial for their well being because it incorporates things that they really need in order to be healthy both mentally and physically: exercise and sunlight. Yes, too much sun is bad for the skin, but long sleeves and sunscreen can take care of that! Sunlight provides us with a natural source of vitamin D and it is also responsible for helping prevent depression caused by a lack of sunshine, also known as SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). And, exercise is also prove to help combat depression and anxiety in people of all ages, including children, because it increases the level of serotonin and other “feel good” hormones in the body.
Trying to get your children away from the television, computer or video game console may not be easy, but it is possible. One of the best ways to get them outside and moving is to not tell them that what you’re after is outdoor fitness for children. And, for Pete’s sake—do NOT use the word ‘exercise’ or you’ll be in for a struggle! You want to choose outdoor activities that are fun and kid-friendly that happens to also involve movement. Try getting them outside for a game of tag or hide and seek for instance. Another fun way to get your kids moving is with kiting. All it takes is a cheap kite from the local department store to get your kids out and running around in the fresh air. It’s fun, requires movement and doesn’t actually feel like exercise. The same goes for biking, rollerblading, skipping and running around with the family dog. If it’s warm enough, there’s nothing like a day at the beach or local swimming pool to get a kid excited and moving!
Looking into outdoor fitness for children is one of the best things that you can do for your child. By helping your child to be active from early on, you are putting them on the path for a healthier future and a love of physical activity that will help everything from their health and mental state to their productivity and self confidence. You will be doing something great for each of you while also building wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.
